Recap
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Greg Frey accounted for three second quarter touchdowns as the Buckeyes defeated Wisconsin on a rainy afternoon in Ohio Stadium. The Badgers had won five of the seven previous games played with the Buckeyes.
Two of Frey’s TDs came via the pass, his first game of the year with more than one scoring toss. The first, to tailback Marc Hicks, covered 21 yards. The second, to split end Jeff Graham, was from 13 yards out. In between, Frey sneaked over from the one, but was lucky to do so. With the ball a yard from the Wisconsin goal line and Ohio State on top 10-6, Frey attempted to hand off to tailback Carlos Snow. But before the transaction could be completed, pulling guard Jeff Davidson (6-6 and 300 pounds) jarred the ball loose. Frey, however, alertly fielded it in mid-air and fell into the end zone for the score.
The Badgers’ total yardage figure of 277 was the second-lowest figure of the year by an OSU opponent (Syracuse was held to 275).
Kicker Pat O’Morrow’s 46-yard field goal was the longest of his Ohio State career.
