Post-OSU Update: Mike Tomczak went undrafted in 1985, but caught on as a free agent with the Chicago Bears. He won a Super Bowl in a backup role with the Bears in 1985 and became a part-time starter with the Bears in 1986 and remained so until 1990. After playing a season each with the Packers and Browns, Tomczak played seven seasons with the Steelers, mostly as a backup. In his 15-year career, Tomczak had a 42-31 record as a starter and threw for over 16,000 yards (88 TD, 106 Int.). After football, Tomczak has worked in coaching, broadcasting, and as a sports agent. 1984 Media Guide: One of the top quarterbacks in college football … the second-leading passer in Ohio State history with 231 completions in 431 attempts for 3,617 yards and 22 touchdowns … has rushed for nine Buckeye touchdowns … a two-year starter for Ohio State … broke two bones in his leg in the second quarter of the final spring game after being nine for nine in passing … a leader and a winner both on and off the field.

1982: The Big Ten’s most efficient passer in 1982 … Started 11 games, missing only the Wisconsin game … finished brilliantly by completing 76 of 132 passes for 1,309 yards and seven touchdowns in the final seven games, all wins … had only three interceptions in his final 132 passes … was a dangerous runner, scoring five touchdowns on the ground … completed over 50 percent of his passes in each of the final six games.
