WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Ohio State won its fifth straight victory with a convincing 39-11 win over Purdue under the lights at sold-out Ross-Ade Stadium.

The Buckeyes scored first on a 21-yard field goal by Matt Frantz and never trailed as the Ohio State offense rolled up 544 yards. Quarterback Jim Karsatos enjoyed his best game of the year by hitting on 11 of 17 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns. Backup Tom Tupa logged considerable playing time and was outstanding with six of seven completions for 91 yards and one touchdown.

Cris Carter, Ohio State’s All-American receiver, pulled down seven receptions for 118 yards, including one scoring toss.

Four of the first five scores were field goals, three by Ohio’s Frantz and one by Jonathon Briggs of Purdue.

Jaymes Bryant was the top ball carrier with 129 yards in 24 carries.

One of the game highlights was a 100-yard interception return by Ohio’s David Brown.
