Recap
Ann Arbor, MI — Michigan rolled up 484 yards of total offense, including a school record 313 rushing yards by Tim Biakabutuka, to knock second-ranked Ohio State from the unbeaten ranks. The Buckeyes’ normally productive offense totaled 392 yards, but could not punch the ball in the end zone when it counted. Twice in the first half, OSU marched inside the Michigan five, but on both occasions had to settle for field goals. An acrobatic interception by Shawn Springs set up a third field goal just before halftime and and OSU seemed to have momentum on its side heading into the locker room. But a Michigan interception on the first play of the third quarter led to a 17-9 lead and swung the pendulum back to the home team. OSU closed the gap to 17-15 on a one-yard run by Eddie George that followed an interception by Mike Vrabel. But back came Michigan on its next drive, marching 65 yards in seven plays for a 24-15 lead. The Wolverines added another TD two possessions later and led 31-15 with 7:55 to play. OSU countered with its final touchdown of the day and a two-point conversion to cut the lead to 31-23 with 6:33 to play, but could get no closer. Vrabel recorded three tackles for loss to give him a school record 23 on the season.
