Major: Communications (1991-93)

1993 Media Guide: The incumbent at tight end … had an outstanding junior season, and hopes to pick up where he left off … a candidate for post-season honors … very dangerous in the open field once he makes a catch because he’s tough for just one defender to tackle … also a fine blocker … may have been the most improved offensive player with the Buckeyes last season … started every game … had an outstanding campaign both in receiving and blocking, where he especially made tremendous strides from his first two seasons … consistently graded out a winning performance … ranked second on the team with 28 receptions for 342 yards (12.2 average) … was instrumental in helping spring several off-tackle and end runs by backs with his fine blocks … earned honorable mention all-Big Ten honors … had two games of five receptions each (Northwestern and Michigan) … had a 38-yard catch against Minnesota … was held out of spring drills in 1992 following left shoulder surgery, but quickly moved up to first team in the fall when Joe Metzger broke his leg at the start of fall camp … along with sophomore D.J. Jones, gives Ohio State the best one-two tight end combo in the league.

1992 Media Guide: Sanders is the Buckeyes’ most experienced tight end … started six games last year when Jeff Ellis was nursing an assortment of bumps and bruises, and played in all 12 … had 11 receptions and averaged 16.5 yards per catch, the second-highest average on the team behind Joey Galloway’s 18.2 number … caught passes in nine games, with two receptions against Washington State and Indiana … lone touchdown grab was a 15-yarder against Northwestern in Cleveland Stadium … had his left should operated on in January and was held out of contact in the spring … expected to be 100% in the fall and will compete with Joe Metzger for playing time … good athlete who can get open and has the speed to get into the end zone after he catches the ball.

1991 Media Guide: Talented young player who will be the No. 2 tight end and could challenge for a starting position if he shows as much improvement in the fall as he did last spring … good receiver with the ability to get down field … might line up as a wideout in certain situations … needs to add weight and become a more consistent blocker, but will work hard to accomplish both of those goals … played a total of 32 minutes in 11 games last year … caught two passes for 39 yards … first catch was a 15 yarder at Purdue and the second covered 24 yards against Minnesota.

1990 Media Guide: First team All-Florida honors as a senior, catching 35 passes for 800 yards and 10 touchdowns … career stats are 54 catches for an impressive 1,700 yards and 24 touchdowns … Started three years at linebacker and two at tight end … had six interceptions and 72 solo tackles as a senior … Sarasota was 10-2 his junior year and 9-2 his senior season … holds the school record for most pass receptions in one game (11 as a senior) … plans to major in physical therapy at Ohio State … hobbies are bowling, video games and going to the movies … admires tight end Keith Jackson of the Philadelphia Eagles … also won four letters in baseball, earning second team all-state honors as a senior.

Personal: Hobbies include going to “action” movies and video games … wants to go into sports broadcasting … from the same high school as fellow Buckeye senior Chico Nelson.
