2000 Media Guide: There are 85 football players on the Ohio State roster that have earned athletic scholarships. Tony Locke, a biology major and tenacious special teams player, took a different route. Locke is at OSU on an academic scholarship and walked-on to the team in the spring of 1998. He has a passion for the game and has found various ways to contribute to the program since his arrival. “Tony Locke has good quickness and has improved drastically since he walked-on here,” Tim Salem, receivers coach, said. Locke will be a key special teams player for Ohio State this season and attempt to work his way into the wideout rotation.
1999: Played in nine games, mostly on special teams … played a season-high four minutes against Ohio … made one tackle-for-loss (9 yards), a key stop against the Bobcats that stopped a fake punt attempt.
1999 Media Guide: Tony Locke, at Ohio State on an academic scholarship, walked-on on the football team in the spring of 1998. He has proven to be a “very dependable receiver,” receivers coach Chuck Stobart said, and “he does an excellent job contributing to the team.” This past spring Locke was one of only three receivers to make it through the entire practices uninjured, and he picked up valuable repetitions and was able to improve his game immeasurably.
1998: Played in his first collegiate game against Toledo.
High School: Attended Urbana High School and was all-area as a junior and senior and also was the team MVP as a senior.
Personal: Chose to attend Ohio State and walk-on to its football program because “it has a great respected academic program and football program.” Is the son of Tina Locke. Born May 19, 1978.
