Post-OSU Update: Raekwon McMillan declared for the 2017 NFL Draft with a year of collegiate eligibility remaining. He was selected by the Miami Dolphins with the 54th pick (2nd round). McMillan tore his ACL in his first preseason game, though, and missed the entire season. He then started two years for the Dolphins, recording 105 tackles in his rookie season. He was traded to the Raiders before the 2020 season and played 16 games (4 starts) that season, recording 27 tackles. Following the season, he signed with the Patriots and has suffered two significant injuries – another preseason ACL injury in 2021 and an Achilles tear in the spring of 2023. (updated: Dec. 2023)

2015: McMillan led the Buckeyes in tackles with 119 and ranked fourth in the Big Ten Conference in both total tackles and average per game (9.8) … his total was the most by an Ohio State sophomore in 25 years, or since Steve Tovar had 125 tackles as a sophomore in 1990 … McMillan was named first-team all-Big Ten by the media earned second-team All-America recognition on the Walter Camp ballot while finishing third for the Butkus Award, an award that he won as a high school senior … he started all 13 games at middle linebacker and led the Buckeyes in tackles seven times with high games of 16 tackles vs. Western Michigan (a career high) and 14 stops against both Indiana and Illinois … his high TFL game was 2.0 in the win over Illinois … credited with five quarterback hurries and had four pass break-ups … played 889 plays including activity on special teams in all 13 games.

2014: McMillan earned snaps on defense at middle linebacker in 14 games and he played in all 15 games for the College Football Playoff national champions … he was named a freshman All-American by Athlon’s, 247Sports and Scout.com … he actually had more snaps at linebacker than the starter Grant in nine games, and he finished with 573 total plays, 471 of those on defense and 102 of them on special teams … McMillan made plays when he was in the game and finished No. 8 among Ohio State tacklers with 54 tackles, a total that included 6.5 tackles-for-loss (24 yards) and 2.5 sacks … he had an interception against Maryland that he returned 24 yards for a touchdown … he had a personal-best and team-leading seven tackles vs. Kent and he had six in games against Michigan and Wisconsin, the latter coming in the Big Ten championship game … he had a high of 2.5 TFLs, including two sacks, vs. Kent, and he also had 2.0 TFLs vs. Michigan.
