Post-OSU Update: Dan “Big Daddy” Wilkinson declared for the 1994 NFL Draft with two seasons of eligibility remaining (OSU career highlight video). Thanks in part to pre-draft workout numbers of a 4.72 second 40-yard dash and 34 bench press reps of 225, Wilkinson was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 1994 draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. Wilkinson had a productive NFL career, playing 13 seasons across four teams. He finished his NFL career with 54.5 sacks 390 tackles, 25 passes batted down, and six forced fumbles. Major: Recreational Education (1993), Undecided (1991-92)
Weight: 300 (1993), 299 (1992)
1993 Media Guide: One of the top defensive tackles in college football even though he is only a sophomore … coming off a superb freshman year in which he won first-team all-Big Ten honors … has a tremendous combination of size, speed, strength and athletic ability … made big play after big play as a rookie, winding up with 46 total tackles, including 10.5 tackles for loss and a team high 6.5 quarterback sacks … excellent pass rusher who overpowers some players and out-quicks others … top game last year in terms of tackles was against Illinois, where he had a career high 10, three of which were sacks for a minus 27 yards … also had seven tackles, including two for lost yardage, against Minnesota … started 10 times and played in all 12 games last year, totaling 250 minutes of playing time, easily the most of any freshman … saved the day in the season opener with Louisville, forcing quarterback Jeff Brohm to hurry his throw on a two-point conversion attempt at the end of the game (OSU won 20-19)… can dominate and will only get better.
1992 Media Guide: Redshirted last year as an offensive tackle … was moved to defense in the spring in an effort to fill the void at tackle created by the departure of three-year regular Rich Frimel … enjoyed a good spring and has won the starting job, provided he can maintain his current weight (he came to Ohio State last fall at 348 pounds) … can be a good football player once he has the necessary experience … runs a 4.9 forty and has a standing vertical leap of 30 inches … also has outstanding agility and gives OSU another quality pass rusher to go along with Greg Smith and Jason Simmons … still needs work on his play against the run, but improved noticeably between the start and finish of spring ball … one of the biggest defensive lineman to ever play for the Buckeyes … the last signee of the 1991 freshman class, committing to the Buckeyes in July.
