1983 Media Guide: Dominic “Dom” Capers was named defensive backfield coach at Ohio State in January, 1982. In his first year, Capers transformed a struggling secondary into a confident unit.

Capers has worked under some exceptional head coaches. He began in 1972 at Kent State under Don James. In 1975 he accepted a position with the University of Hawaii.

In 1977 he went to San Jose State working for Lynn Stiles. The following year he went to California coaching for Roger Theder, where he stayed for two seasons.

In 1980, Capers went to Tennessee as defensive backfield coach under Johnny Majors. Two years at Tennessee set the stage for joining the Buckeyes.

Capers was born in Cambridge, Ohio. He attended Meadowbrook High School in Byesville, Ohio. A 1972 graduate of Mt. Union College in Alliance, he majored in psychology and physical education. He played football and baseball in college.

Dom is married to the former Holly Hepburn.
