2013 Media Guide: Highly regarded Mike Mitchell was one of only two middle linebackers nationally in his recruiting class to receive a five-star rating by Scout … also a five-star prospect by Rivals … Scout’s No. 2 middle linebacker, Mitchell announced Jan. 5 on national TV, and while playing in the U.S. Army All-American game, that he would be attending Ohio State … the No. 10 overall player in the state of Texas, Mitchell is rated as high as the No. 26 overall prospect (Rivals) and No. 28 by Scout … also a member of the ESPN 150 (No. 128).
High School: Grew up in Winter Park, Fla., but spent final three years of high school in Texas … played for Prestonwood Christian as a sophomore (and school was state champion) and senior, and for Plano West as a junior … he recorded 151 tackles and 11 sacks as a junior and then totaled 186 tackles, 32 tackles-for-loss (11 of them sacks), seven forced fumbles and even returned a kickoff for a touchdown as a senior playing for coach Chris Cunningham.
Personal: Mike is the son of Ken and Candy Mitchell … father played two seasons in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons, this after a stint in the minor leagues in the California Angels organization and then walking on at UNLV to play football … Mitchell has eight brothers and sisters (two older brothers, three
