2024 Media Guide: Joey transferred to Ohio State this spring … he enrolled in classes in January and competed through spring drills.

Michigan: Joey played baseball and football at Michigan from 2019-23 and lettered in both sports … he graduated in May 2023 with his degree in communications … played in 100 career games for Michigan’s baseball team … had his best statistical season in 2022 when he hit .277 with eight doubles, five home runs and 21 RBI … started 63 of Michigan’s 80 games over the 2022 and 2023 seasons … played in 17 games for the Wolverines in 2021 and 2022 … appeared in 11 games on special teams in 2022 and also saw action in five games as a linebacker.

High School: Starred in both sports at St. Francis DeSales … hit over .500 for his career for baseball coach Tom Neubert and was an all-state performer three times (2017-18-19).

Personal: Coached in middle school football by, and remains close friends with, Eric Hanna, a former Buckeye basketball player from the 1990s … is the son of Erin and Jason Velazquez … has eight siblings: sisters Ryan, Lauren, Ava and Lyla, and brothers Jason, Jake, Alex and Leo.
