2016 Media Guide: Joe Burger is a respected leader on this football team … that’s because he has worked hard to earn a scholarship this past summer and complete a journey from preferred walk-on into a valuable contributor on the playing field and a role-model citizen off the field … a senior academically and now in his fifth season with the program, Burger has played in 34 games for the Buckeyes and earned three Varsity O letters … he and teammate Craig Fada are about to reach a significant achievement: earning a fourth letter in football after initially walking on to the team, something that isn’t easily researched but certainly hasn’t been done at Ohio State in football very often, if at all … Burger is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten Conference honoree and a four-time OSU Scholar-Athlete who will graduate in December with his degree in industrial and systems engineering … he interned this summer with JP Morgan Chase and previously, in May 2014, with industrial engineering firm TP Mechanical.

2015: Burger played in every game – 13 – for the second consecutive season and earned his third Varsity O letter … a contributor on special teams, Burger made his biggest play as a Buckeye when he tackled the Indiana punter for a three-yard loss on a fake punt attempt … the Buckeyes were trailing by 7 at the time and would go on to kick a field goal in what would ultimately become a 7-point victory, 34-27 … that play was part of a season-high 17-play game for Burger against the Hoosiers.

2015 Media Guide: Joe Burger is a senior academically and now in his fourth season with the program, he has played in 21 games for the Buckeyes and earned two Varsity O letters … Burger is an Academic
All-Big Ten Conference honoree and a three-time OSU Scholar-Athlete.

2014 Media Guide: Joe Burger came to Ohio State as a preferred walk-on, joining the team with the rest of the 2012 freshman class in June 2012 … he is a true junior and in his third season with the program … after not seeing playing time as a true freshman in 2012, he got into six games in 2013 and played 33 snaps on defense and another four on special teams … when injuries sidelined a couple players, Burger started at linebacker in the game at Illinois … he had his season-best nine plays from
scrimmage on defense against San Dieo State … Burger is an OSU Scholar-Athlete and is majoring in engineering … he interned in May 2014 with industrial engineering firm TP Mechanical.

High School: Burger was a 2011 La Salle H.S. team captain and was named first-team Division I all-state by the Associated Press … recorded 103 tackles and five sacks plus an interception … his work in the classroom, in the community and on the field led to his winning the 2012 “That’s My Boy Award,” presented by the National Football Foundation and the Southwest Ohio Football Coaches Association … played for coach Tom Grippa.

Personal: Father, Bob, walked on to the Notre Dame football team and eventually earned a scholarship … brother, Bobby, also walked on to the Notre Dame team … was the vice-president of LaSalle’s National Honor Society and held a seat on the student council.
