2002 Media Guide: Andy Groom is a leading candidate for the 2002 Ray Guy Award … finished second in the Big Ten and fourth nationally last year, averaging 45 yards per punt on 49 kicks (the sixth best average in OSU history) … former walk-on who was converted to scholarship at the beginning of the 2001 campaign … a fine athlete who also holds for placements and could handle the place kicking chores if an emergency arose …concentrated in the spring on improving his hang time.

2001 Season: Selected by the coaching staff as the Special Teams Player of the Year … began the season as the backup punter, but took over as the regular in week three … won second-team All-Big Ten honors … had six punts of 60 or more yards … longest effort was 67 yards against Purdue … had a timely 66-yard bomb at Michigan, where he punted 10 times … dropped 18 punts inside the 20, time-and-again pinning opponents deep in their own territory … former quarterback with sure hands … has demonstrated the ability to remain cool under fire … named to the Big Ten’s All-Academic Team.

2001 Media Guide: Andy Groom is a former walk-on who is now the starting holder for all placements … tried out for the team in the fall of 1998 as a true freshman and was kept as a combination punter-kicker … began holding last year and earned his first letter … former quarterback with sure hands … has demonstrated the ability to stay cool under fire and is a valuable member of the special teams … picked up 14 yards on a fake field goal against Iowa, narrowly missing a touchdown on the play … had a punt blocked later in the same game, but ran the ball down and returned it 11 yards on a very athletic play.

2000 Season: Saw action in all 12 games.

1999 Media Guide: Andy Groom walked-on to the team last fall and has been working out as a punter and placekicker.
